Internship at Project Sites in India

About Accepting Interns at Project Sites in India

ASHA= Asian Sustainable Holistic Approach is a specified nonprofit corporation that is founded by Makino School of Continuing and Non-Formal Education, Sam Higgingbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences. The organization teaches sustainable agriculture to the students and trainees from countries around and within India, and supports the rural communities by organizing and leading development projects in the local villages.

We are recruiting long-term interns, who wish to work at, and support the local rural communities in India, are interested in exchanging knowledge of Japanese and Indian agricultural traditions, and would live on the MSCNFE campus with staff, trainees and students.

The contents of the interns’ duties will vary, but the primary duty would be to support the projects that are enforced by the MSCNFE. If you are especially interested in organic farming and/or rural development, please state so at the time you contact us, or on the application form.

Qualification:
A healthy 18+ year old individual who’s English is above communication level, and is interested in rural development, rural community life, diversity of cultures, and religious community. We do not question one’s country of origin. While living in a dormitory on campus, one will be exposed to people with various religious backgrounds, customs and practices, ranging from Christianity, Hinduism, and other Indian religions.

Internship Period:
More than 60 days, less than 1 year. (May be considered for official staff employment after the internship, depending on one’s request and knowledge/ability)
You are required to obtain visa to visit India. Please consult us regarding visa at the time of application.
We also accept short term visitors.

Cost:
You are exempted from paying the housing fee, as you will be living in the dormitory of MSCNFE. However, the dorm does not have a kitchen space, so please understand that you are required to pay for your own food expenses and eat at the department cafeteria.
Food expense: 3000 yen/month (MSCNFE cafeteria)
Dormitory expense: exempt

It takes about 9 hours by train to get from Delhi Airport to the campus of Sam Higgingbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences Makino School of Continuing and Non-Formal Education. It is possible to arrange a guide from the airport to the campus, but please understand that we may adjust the dates depending on the schedules of the staff members.

Application:
Please directly fill the application form below and send it to the e-mail address below as an attachment.

Please apply at least a month before your visit, as it requires some time to book the train tickets and to arrange the staff schedules.

The weather in India is extremely dry and harsh during April, May, and June. Additionally, those months are set aside as a preparation period for the 10 month training program for the young agriculturists, as a period for seminars and evaluations outside campus for staffs, and as a period to return to Japan for Japanese staff members. So, please plan to visit India from July onwards.
